Matrix is an open source protocal for group collaboration. People join rooms that are parts of communities.
There are several free Matrix clients you can use, just pick one and use the one you like. We recommend Element, Hydrogen and Fluffly Chat. Use this link to join!
Discord is one of the major group chat platforms, you can only use its official client, which is closed source, to talk on Discord.
